DGX Monthly – April 7th
Summit confirmed, AI governance debates, and what we’re working on
Hey everyone,
It’s been a big month across the data and AI governance space, and I wanted to share a few thoughts before we get into the updates.
One of the standout moments this month was working with a client who’s building out their AI governance model from scratch. The question that sparked the most debate?
👉 Should AI governance sit in a separate policy, or be part of your existing data governance framework?
It’s something we’re hearing more and more — and honestly, there’s a case for both.
On one hand, AI governance and data governance manage different risks — data governance focuses on things like quality, privacy, and lineage, while AI governance brings in areas like model transparency, bias, ethics, and explainability. So there’s a strong argument for separate policies to give each the attention they need.
But some organisations are choosing to combine them into a single policy, especially when they’re in the early stages. It can simplify things, reduce duplication, and help get buy-in — as long as the scope is clear and the right controls are in place.
Our view? There’s no perfect model, but the key is making sure the two are integrated and aligned — and, most importantly, something that fits your organisation.
Thanks for reading, and for being part of the community. Let’s get into this month’s updates 👇

Data Governors in Cafes Drinking Coffees Recap
In the latest Data Governors in Cafes Drinking Coffees post, we had the pleasure of sitting down with Yass Omar, Head of Legal and Regulatory Affairs at health tech startup Heidi Health.
Since our first meeting, Yass has expanded his role, balancing the need for rapid product development with the critical implementation of AI and Data Governance safeguards.
We spoke about the challenges of building responsible AI in healthcare — where the stakes are high and the need for strong governance is real. Yass’s approach highlights just how important it is to get AI governance right, especially in fast-moving industries.
