Combining some of my favourite pastimes: meeting new people, exploring different cafes, enjoying a hot latte and talking practical challenges and innovations in data governance.
This week’s feature is another VIRTUAL coffee chat with Christine Fulcher, a data governance and information management professional whose journey to the world of data began with music, of all places! A trained musicologist, Christine sees structure, relationships, and harmony in everything—whether it’s an orchestral score or a complex data model. Her analogies are brilliant: data governance as a cake with missing ingredients, or data relationships visualised like sections of an orchestra.
Christine’s career has weaved through archives, museums, libraries, startups, and now a major digital identity project at the NSW Department of Customer Service. She’s a passionate advocate for privacy-conscious design, clear accountability, and building practical governance capability in environments full of ambiguity. Her role sits at the intersection of information governance, data minimisation, regulatory compliance, and citizen trust—especially in the context of AI, verifiable credentials, and public sector transformation.
Thanks for the cuppa and the conversation, Christine. Still thinking about your comment: “People, money, and data are your biggest assets—treat them like it.” Love it.
